Parliament, the President, the government and local authorities: who makes the law and who decides in the municipality.

Introduction
Poland is a parliamentary republic with a Constitution adopted in 1997. Legislative power is exercised by the Sejm (460 deputies) and the Senate (100 senators), executive power by the President and the Council of Ministers, and judicial power by the courts and tribunals.

How it works
- the President is elected by popular vote for 5 years
- the government is headed by the Prime Minister
- the country is divided into 16 voivodeships, counties and municipalities
- municipalities set, among other things, property tax and zoning plans
Why it matters and what is important
For an investor it is important that many decisions are taken locally: zoning plans, permits, local taxes. Good relations with the municipality speed up an investment.
