Types of contract, probation period, notice, holiday and working time under the Labour Code.

Introduction
The Labour Code protects employees and limits freedom of contract. Alongside employment contracts, companies use contracts of mandate and B2B cooperation.

How it works
- a probationary contract for up to 3 months, followed by a fixed-term or indefinite contract
- fixed-term contracts for up to 33 months in total and a maximum of three
- holiday of 20 days (26 days after 10 years of service, including education)
- working time of 8 hours a day and an average of 40 hours a week
- notice from 2 weeks to 3 months, depending on length of service
Why it matters and what is important
Mistakes in contracts and notifications are costly: outstanding contributions, interest and disputes before the labour court. For non-EU nationals, work permits and notification obligations come on top.
